TMFMTL Presents #007 – We turn 5 this Saturday in Sin É with CHANCER & Pranks

TMFTML turns 5 this March (whut?!?) and we’re bringing the noise to Sin É Dublin to celebrate in style!

Headlining on the night are Dublin instrumental math wizards Chancer. This 4-piece supergroup tear the roof off every room they play in. Their music is complex in nature but instantly accessible, full of mind bending loops and ear grabbing hooks. Expect to have a serious bangover after this set! For fans of Adebisi Shank, And So I Watch You From Afar & Ttng.

”Chancer deliver punchy hooks and off-kilter ear-worms. The band has transitioned from a solo project to duo, from power-trio to power-quattro, with members from other local bands stepping in and filling the interstices. The band’s latest single ‘Banger’ is bound to get you bouncing.” Fecking Bahamas

We’re extremely excited to have the mighty Pranks returning to the stage to support. These guys have to be seen to believed. The power-duo produce ground shaking, blisteringly explosive grunge tunes full of the tastiest riffs imaginable. For fans of Queens of the Stone Age, Royal Blood & Death From Above 1979

““Showing that economy doesn’t necessary mean you can’t deliver a bludgeoningly loud rock show, Micheal Sheil and Gearoid Connaughton’s grunge-leaning rock music has the big riffs and metal chops of old. They sound like Manic Street Preachers’ James Dean Bradfield letting loose on a Queens of the Stone Age track. It’s old school stuff done well.” – Nialler9’s New Artist of the Week, The Irish Times

Entry is FREE before 9PM or €5 after and doors are at 8:00pm. See you in the front row!

TMFTML Presents #005 this Saturday with The Ocelots, Junior Brother and Eoin Martin

Summer is officially here and we’re getting in on the fun with some fresh new folk acts to catch after the grand stretch in the evening!

Headlining on the night are Wexford twin brothers The Ocelots. With just a guitar, a harmonica and their voices, Brandon and Ashley have created a raw sound that has been generated from years of street performing all across Europe. They have crafted their songwriting and musical experience together to produce a forceful blend of rich harmonies and bare, raw acoustic folk. The Ocelots are known for their ability to capture an audience, with mesmerising melody and variety meeting their charm and wit on stage.

Support comes from folk singer/ songwriter Junior Brother. Hailing from Co. Kerry, he plays sometimes humorous, sometimes heady tunes. Strange stories, poetic and arcane, unfold with reckless abandon upon an idiosyncratic Guitar and Foot Tambourine accompaniment. Unique, experimental yet ambitious, his material draws heavily in tone and subject matter from his upbringing in rural Ireland, demonstrating a wild love of language.

Opening the show on the night is Tullamore native Eoin Martin who has spent the last number of years honing his craft and finding his own voice in the crowded singer-songwriter scene. And what a voice! Eoin mixes percussive acoustic guitar with complex finger picked melodies and rounds things off with a truly captivating vocal style, full of harmony and punctuated rhythms. Think Bon Iver and Newton Faulkner meeting up for a few sneaky pints.

Entry is FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE and doors are at 8:00pm. See you in the front row!

TMFTML Presents #004 this Friday with Chancer, WOLFF and Markas Carcas

We’re getting in to the spirit of Halloween with a lineup of acts that are guaranteed to make you scream!

Headlining on the night and launching their incredible new single ‘Streets of Ragel’ are Dublin instrumental math wizards Chancer. Originally a solo side project of Val Normal‘s Dara Walsh, the band has expanded to a 4-piece and have just completed their first Irish tour. Their music is complex in nature but instantly accessible, full of mind bending loops and ear grabbing hooks. For fans of Adebisi Shank, And So I Watch You From Afar and TTNG.

”Chancer deliver punchy hooks and off-kilter ear-worms. The band has transitioned from a solo project to duo, from power-trio to power-quattro, with members from other local bands stepping in and filling the interstices. The band’s latest single ‘Banger’ is bound to get you bouncing.”Feckingbahamas.com

Support on the night comes from Wexford riffsmiths WOLFF, purveyors of the finest thrash blues the southeast has to offer. WOLLF is the brainchild of Johhny Stewart who, along with his hard hitting bandmates, has carved a niche through the Irish music landscape over the last 2 years with a combination of killer tunes and hard graft. Their new single ‘Freak Like Me’ comes out TODAY so be sure to check it out! For Fans of Queens of the Stone AgeThe Black Keys and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club (Official Page)

Markas and Koach from the foot stompin blues spewin Markas Carcas and the Trail Gang are opening the show for us as well! Markas Carcas is the musical moniker of Dubliner Mark Flynn, whose musical journey started early having learnt the piano at a young age before dropping the instrument in favour of the guitar. Those early years training his fingers on the keys shine through in his unique style of finger picking and highly rhythmic strumming. His music is straight up delta blues, flown from Mississippi with a detour through Dublin.

We’ll have prizes on the night for ‘Best Costume’ so be sure to get your trusty Bin Bag Batman out of the back of the wardrobe!

Entry is FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE and doors are at 8:30pm. See you in the front row!

TMFTML Presents #003 this Friday with Leila Jane & The Healers, Mike Paterson and Eoin Martin

Continuing our series of curated shows, we’re back with an evening acoustic leaning acts to ease you in to the Autumn dusk.

Headlining on the night are Leila Jane & The Healers. Leila Jane’s voice is as unmistakable as it is unique. Drawing influence from the Delta Blues and the sweet sounding tones of 50’s Rock and Roll and Country, their music is blissful and serene but not afraid to bite. Raw, heartfelt lyrics reveal an old soul hiding inside a youthful visage. Think Janis Joplin singing the songs of Joni Mitchell.

“Donegal native Leila Jane evokes the best of classic blues while adding a fresh native twist. Her vocals and guitar playing call to mind the sultry folk of Karen Dalton, but she never runs the risk of losing her Irish twang.” Hot Press Magazine

Support on the night comes from Mike Paterson and Eoin Martin.

Cavan singer-songwriter Mike Paterson cut his teeth as the lead singer of blues-rockers Travis Oaks, touring at home and abroad extensively. The band came to an end in 2016, after which Mike hid out in his native county, contemplating the next steps in his musical journey. What followed was a series of stripped back acoustic tracks, featuring simple but unforgettable vocal melodies laid over finger style guitar. Mike is creating songs to paint pictures of nostalgia. His first live single, Outside Lines was released on May 30th 2017. Think Neil Young indulging his more reflective side.

Tullamore native Eoin Martin has spent the last number of years honing his craft and finding his own voice in the crowded singer-songwriter scene. And what a voice! Eoin mixes percussive acoustic guitar with complex finger picked melodies and rounds things off with a truly captivating vocal style, full of harmony and punctuated rhythms. Think Bon Iver and Newton Faulkner meeting up for a few sneaky pints.

” As far as guitars go, nothing beats the acoustic guitar when it’s played expertly. Eoin Martin, from Offaly, is such an expert. He plays so beautifully that he cannot fail to impress. His riffs would rival Metallica and his use of harmonics is exquisite but restrained.” Pure M

TMFTML Presents #002 this Saturday with Sister Ghost, TFATF & Chinese Newspaper

Following on from last months packed out show, we’re back with an evening of face-melting, ear-ringing riffage to close out an amazing summer of music!

Headlining on the night are Belfast shock rockers Sister Ghost, purveyors of grizzly garage punk from the brain of lead singer Shannon O’Neill. Their live show is infectous and raucous, dripping in distortion but always underpinned with a catchy melody. Think Sonic Youth smashed together with The Distillers, recorded straight to a 4 track tape.

“Led by Shannon O’Neill, the outfit is rapidly becoming a must-see on the live circuit, and it’s no surprise given the ferocity and synchronicity with which Sister Ghost take to their instruments.” State Magazine

Support on the night comes from The False and the Fair and Chinese Newspaper.

Dublin based The False and The Fair are difficult to nail down. Their recorded output to date genre hops from psycedelic prog rock to alternative and even acoustic led folk. Their live show stitches this together to make a whole that is greater than the sum of its parts. Chock full of incredibly talented players, expect plenty of improvised sections and suprise transitions.

“There’s a lovely cross-over between late 60’s folk, psychedelia and alternative rock, the former courtesy of Love, the middle from Jefferson Airplane and the latter genre from The Doors. ”
– Remy

Chinese Newspaper are a 3 piece grunge/garage band from Navan. Fully embracing the DIY mentality has allowed them to be super prolific, self-recording and releasing 2 EPs and a string of singles in the short time they’ve been together. Solid solos and thundering drum lines create an energy thats impossible to ignore.

“Their most recent EP Spotless Mind is also their most accomplished. It’s all very unhinged and raucous but in a clearly very tight and honed manner. It’s got that off the cuff easiness that is actually rather difficult to pull off correctly.” – Overblown

We’re launching a new series of gigs this Saturday with BODIES, Slouch and Keep!

After 3 years of writing about and reviewing new music, festivals and gigs here at The Minor Fall, The Major Lift we’ve decided it’s about time we put on some of our own. We’ll be taking over Sin É Dublin on Saturday July 29th for the first in a series of curated shows featuring the best new acts this island has to offer!

Headlining on the night are BODIES, fresh off the back of their brand new single ‘I’m Waiting’ . BODIES have spent time cultivating their sound; drawing influence from the likes of Radiohead, Brand New & Sigur Ros. Originally the solo project of David Anthony McGeown, now expanded to a 4 piece live band. Expect a wild sonic backdrop to David’s evocative and sometimes poignant lyrics.

Support on the night comes from Slouch and newcomers KEEP.

Slouch, self decribed as “The sound of gorillas caged in a polystyrene prison cell”, are a 3 three piece that play noisy, toe tappin’, knee slappin’ grungy/stonery tunes in your local swamphole. Often compared to Pinkerton-era Weezer with smackerings of Queens of the Stone Age and Pixies, the guys have released a slew of great singles this year off the back of last years ‘Feminine Elbows’ EP.

KEEP are a three-piece Experimental Rock band based in Dublin. Made up of members of Galway folk outfit Oscar Mild, and Dublin Progressive band Synk; Keep’s chilled sound is commandeered by the steady grooves of primary songwriter and drummer Seann Wynne.

Entry is FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE and doors are at 8pm. See you in the front row!

Expect to see more gigs coming up over the coming months. If you’re in a band and would like to play at one of the shows please do get in touch!
